You are the dragonborn, the man with the ability to absorb the souls of dragons and use them to power up yourself.

Sounds pretty sweet doesn’t it? In the fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls series by Bethesda, Skyrim takes the player to the eponymous region of Tamriel, the setting of all of the Elder Scrolls games.

The game begins with the player, as of yet nameless and without a design, in a wagon with several other prisoners. The game gives to explanation as to why you, or any of your companions are imprisoned. As you get to the first town, Helgen, you can hear people from the houses by the road yelling at you. You get to the main courtyard, and one of your companions attempts to run away, only to be shot down by archers, showing that there is no point in trying to escape. One by one, the prisoners are called up. Once you are reached, you get to name and design your character. After this, you go to the headsman.

You are saved by a very unlikely savior, and you then have to run through Helgen, evading any attackers, as you still have your hands tied behind your back. Once you get to the prisons, you have the choice of either siding with the Stormcloaks (the rebellion) or the Imperials ( the invaders.) Once you have made your decision, follow the person. They will proceed to take off your bindings, and instruct you to find a weapon. You will then enter your first battle. After the battle you fight your way through the dungeons, and once you are through the dungeons, you are free to do whatever you want, but you are instructed to either follow the leader to the first town, or meet him there. Doing so will continue with the main quest, but you can do that whenever you feel like it.

Skyrim offers many different things to do, and is so huge that if you where to play through the game several times, you would encounter different scenarios every time. Fight through dungeons full of Draugr, or clear out forts over-run with bandits. You have the choice of joining any or all of the four major guilds in Skyrim; the Thieves Guild in Riften, the Companions in Whiterun, the College of Mages in Winterhold, or the Dark Brotherhood in the south. Each guild offers perks, and a whole line of quests to go through on your journey.
